Lots of hoops to jump through for the tag DB conversion.

V6.1 and prior going to v6.2 and later was the jump from 32 bit to 64 bit. Anyway, history lesson aside, I've converted 7.0 projects to 8.0 and again to 9.0 without issue. 32-bit versions of View used the Wacom SQL database for tags which is no longer supported because Wacom no longer exists.Ħ4-bit versions use Microsoft SQL exclusively, and 32-bit versions from 6.1-7.0 I believe have both. The big issue came with the 32/64-bit split which was between versions 6.0 and 6.1 IIRC. If you have a bunch of SE standalone machines, aside from the obvious question of why are you doing that and why don't you have a server-client configuration, the upgrade from v.7 to v.9 in my experience is pretty painless. There really isn't much to the client side of things.

If so, it shouldn't be all that difficult to update all of your client machines. Is it a FTView SE Network installation where you have a single server and multiple clients? VMWare Workstation costs money, but it's reliable and therefore worth it IMO. VirtualBox is free and open source, although we've found some occasional glitches (networking and usb devices in particular). Also makes it easier to get new developers going on a project, since one person makes a VM and then everyone else can get a copy of it (rather than sitting through the installation process). I work for an SI, and we use virtual machines extensively to solve this problem with FactoryTalk and many other software packages. Was/is anyone else in the same boat? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

The only solution I can think of would be to install one version in a virtual PC environment, but I have very little experience with them. I know the easy answer is to install v.9 and slowly update all of our client's HMIs, but several factors (namely dozens of copy-exact systems in the field) prevent us from doing so. However, my understanding is that it isn't possible to install both versions in parallel like you can with RSLogix/Studio 5000. My company has been using FTView SE v.7 for several years now and we'd like to migrate to v.9. And plain text only in the user flair, no links.
